What is KVPY?
Kishore Vagyanik Prosahan Yojana (KVPY) is a programme launched in 1999 by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India to encourage students studying basic science to take up a research career in science.
The objective of the programme is to identify and encourage talented and motivated students to pursue a career in research.

The programme aims to help students realize their potential and ensure that the best scientific talent is produced for research and development in the country. Upto the pre-PhD level or whatever it is 5 years ago, the selected KVPY fellows are awarded generous fellowships and contingency grants. In addition, summer camps are organized for KVPY fellows in reputed research and educational institutions in the country. The Department of Science and Technology, the nodal agency of the government, has entrusted the overall responsibility of organizing and conducting the KVPY programme to the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and constituted a Management Committee and a National Advisory Committee (NAC) to oversee its implementation. A core committee takes care of both day-to-day and academic aspects of the KVPY programme.
